In delivering its urban mobility mandate, AMUGA faces recurring challenges related to the availability, consistency, and reliability of GTFS data needed for day-to-day planning and digital traveler information. To address these gaps, AMUGA sought the technical support of a recognized organization specialized in producing and operationalizing geolocated mobility datasets, with a focus on traveler information services, interoperability, and optimization of the public transport offer.
Transport for Cairo supported AMUGA by transforming raw onboard survey datasets into an integrated, model-ready database and a usable GTFS feed suitable for trip planning and accessibility analysis. The work included relating multiple raw data sources to build a comprehensive, temporally rich travel-time dataset, applying agreed assumptions to fill unavoidable data gaps and ensure completeness for conversion, and producing a GTFS package that could be directly used in common planning and analysis workflows. Throughout the process, we documented and shared the underlying methodologies and software tools with AMUGA staff to enable local ownership, replication, and future updates of the dataset.
